- Marlene Dietrich photographed by Anton Bruehl 1935
Today was the 20th anniversary of Marlene Dietrichs death who died at the age of 90 at her Paris apartment on May 6 1992.
Arguably one of the most beautiful women ever to grace the silver screen, actress Marlene Dietrich utilized her cat-shaped eyes, high cheekbones, and halo of blonde curls to capture the imagination of fans both male and female.
Born in Berlin, where she also became a huge star during the silent movie era she decided to immigrate in the early years of Nazi dictatorship to the USA, becoming an american citizen in 1937.
Later in life Marlene reinvented herself as a singer and solo performer.
She toured Australia a numerous times. Unfortunately it was also here where her stage career came to an end when she fell off the stage and broke her leg at a performance in Sydney.
To see Marlene Dietrich perform live in Melbourne follow the link: TV Magic of Marlene Melbourne Okt 1965 from Aztec Television Enterprises filmed at the Princess Hotel.
The German newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung published wonderful photos of her with short comments about her life to commemorate the anniversary of her death.

And the winner is: Das Heidelberger Schloss (Heidelberg Castle)
The German National Tourist Board (abbreviation: GNTB) asked actual and potential tourists from all over the world for their favourite German travel destination. Heidelberg and its famous castle ruin which dates back to the 13th century and still dominates the cities skyline, won most votes.
The castle has not just been a popular place for tourists in the past and present. Painters, writers and poets mused upon the ivy-wrapped decay of once grand buildings. From Hugo to Twain, from Turner to Fohr, many artists romanticized the old ruins. For more info: schloss-heidelberg.de

Bad Hersfeld, courtesy of postleitzahl.org
Bad Hersfeld, a German festival and spa town in the east of Hessia opened last October Germany’s first Language Museum “Wortreich” (full of words).
Over 1,200 sq m and more then 80 interactive work stations invite visitors of all age groups to participate and explore the world of language and communication. Combining education and entertainment is the goal of ”Wortreich” , ”Where everyone has a say” its motto. Students of German language will find it interesting to be able to participate in the various activities. Their topics range from endangered languages to poetry slams, from fairy tales to mobile phones.
Look through a word kaleidoscope, send a text message on an over-size mobile phone, sing along to national anthems from all over the world, match the various dialects to the regions on the map, or play battleship with words instead of boats. There is also a game where players throw letter balls into basketball hoops, or dress up in costumes and masks to act out scenes from Romeo and Juliet, Little Red Riding Hood, or Ronia the Robber’s Daughter. In the interpreter’s box you can test your foreign language skills, while the Stimm Spa (voice spa) provides you with tips for controlling your voice. In the box of feelings you’ll have the chance to analyze joy, fear and anger. In the TV studio you can produce shows.
